Texas ACS & Hurricane Helene
Help us reach our goal of 500 Flood Bucket Kits
We are profoundly saddened by the destruction brought about by Hurricane Helene. As we receive updates and view images of the devastation, our desire to assist grows stronger. We urge our Texas Conference members to join us in addressing this urgent need in the affected areas. We have been in communication with various Conference ACS directors, and in the following text, you will find that ACS is actively engaged in relief efforts.
Adventist Community Services (ACS) is a charter member of the Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD), ACS collaborates with other member organizations, each playing specific roles during disasters to ensure the resources are used effectively and efficiently. One of our primary responsibilities is to oversee warehouses and distribution centers for FEMA, state agencies, and local government entities during emergencies. Although we may not receive as much media attention as other groups, we work together in harmony for the benefit of the community.
Update on the ongoing work by ACS:
In Ashville, North Carolina the Carolina Conference ACS have visited a facility and hope to have the facility functional by Saturday October 5, 2024.
Our ACS teams are also busy in Valdosta, Georgia where the county has requested ACS to set up 2 large distribution sites. The Conference is awaiting the request for a multi-agency Warehouse from the State, which may come shortly.
Florida and Southeastern Conferences are busy opening a Multi-Agency Warehouse in Ocala, Florida for the State. Both Conferences will be operating this facility, both Conferences will ensure we have 4 or 5 Distribution sites at our churches. This will ensure we have direct contact with the community we are serving in Florida.
